Pre-Entry French Language Course ("FLE")

The FLE (French as a Foreign Language) program is designed to help non-French speakers learn French. Here is a general overview of the information gathered on these courses:

Overview of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) Courses

Objective:

  • The French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses are intended for foreign students who wish to learn or improve their French proficiency. They aim to develop the language skills necessary to understand, speak, read, and write in French.

Course Structure:

  • Courses can be intensive and are often organized before the start of the university semesters, in August.
They cover various aspects of the French language, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, as well as elements of French culture and civilization.

  • Accessibility:
These courses are open to all international students, including those participating in exchange programs such as Erasmus.

Culture and Immersion:

  • In addition to language courses, FLE programs often include cultural activities, outings, and meetings to promote cultural immersion and the integration of foreign students.

Explore the iconic monuments of Paris and Évry:

  • Paris: The Louvre, the Pyramid, the Eiffel Tower, the Seine quays, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the Arc de Triomphe.

  • Évry: The Place des Trois Pouvoirs (symbol of the democratic system), the media library (including the FLE section), the mosque, and the cathedral to discover the values of France (motto, flag, secularism).

In Progress

Discover various topics to better understand life in France and Europe:

  • Transportation in Île-de-France: RER, TGV, metro, Vélib’.

  • Economy and world of work: The 35-hour workweek, the 4-day workweek, teleworking, assistance for returning to employment (unemployment benefits), 5 weeks of paid vacation.

  • Housing: APL, shared housing, and intergenerational shared housing for students.

  • France and the European Union: Erasmus program.

  • Ecology: COP 26, Nice Summit. Image of France: Between tradition and modernity, between fascination and rejection, as conveyed in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games.

Cultural Outings

Two annual cultural outings are organized, for example in 2024:

  • Visit to Montmartre

  • Visit to the Opéra Garnier

Student Connections

Linguistic and cultural exchanges and meetings:

  • Meetings between Italian students and Italian studies students (with Mme Brunelli).

  • Connecting Chinese students with Sinologists. Although this is less common now, it can be reorganized. For more information, join the Discord of the Com' du club RI.

Welcome for Non-French Speaking Students

We organize specific events to welcome you:

  • Welcome breakfast: Organized by the BdE for non-French speaking students.

  •  Back-to-school booth: A booth will be present during the freshman welcome day so that foreign students can meet the RI representatives of the BdE and the administration.

  •  RI Evening: After integration, around early October, come share dishes from your country or region during a convivial meal.

Project to organize workshops like the "Fresque du Climat" and "l'atelier 2 Tonnes" in both languages for inclusive participation.

A mentoring system is also considered by the BdE.
